Hacker Presentation Hits Home at Technet Mid-America

Presentation Sheds Light on Real-World Security Vulnerabilities at Government Conference

(June 22, 2011) Collinsville, IL - TechNet Mid-America is an annual event sponsored by both the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA) and the National Defense Transportation Association (NDTA) Scott–St. Louis Chapters. This year's theme, “Innovation Through Partnerships: World Class Distribution and Technology”, supports the DoD’s focus on continuous improvement and developing greater efficiencies. Distinguished keynote speakers, panelists and presenters shared their vision of today’s emerging technologies and distribution concepts to improve the IT and logistics infrastructures within the DoD.

Among the few presenters was Ethical Hacker, Dave Chronister, from Parameter Security who opened many eyes with his "Inside the Mind for a Hacker" presentation. During his speech he demonstrated how creating malware such as Trojans takes minutes and bypasses anti-virus and firewalls with ease and without detection - giving the hacker full reign of your network. Additionally, he shed light into the mindset and motives of hackers and highlighted the 5 most underrated and overrated security measures government and Corporate America use today. One attendee was overheard saying this was the best presentation at the event and that it was scary to see how easily and quickly hackers can access networks and leave without a trace.
