Discusses Going Into Business with Spouse for Women Entrepreneurs Radio Series (December 22, 2011) St. Louis, MO – Parameter Security’s CEO, Renee Chronister, was interviewed on BlogTalkRadio’s Bruce Hurwitz Presents live 30 minute call-in program on Tuesday, December 13. In this final segment of Bruce Hurwitz’s Women Entrepreneurs series, Renee discussed the topic of going into business with your spouse. This is certainly an experienced topic for Renee since she and her husband, Dave, started Parameter Security in 2007. Bruce started out the interview with an interesting statement: “As listeners to my previous broadcast learned, you are doing something that I strongly advise against. You work with your husband. I have been employed twice where spouses worked together. Once it ended with the wife being fired; the other time in divorce. Apparently, you have found the secret to successful spousal co-employment, if that’s a proper term. What is it?” Renee discussed her successful working relationship with Dave, highlighting the importance of space, respect, communication, and laughter. Renee stated, “Respect each other’s opinions and know you will not agree on everything; just be able to compromise. And it’s okay to let employees see you don’t always agree.” She also stressed the imperative of mutually respecting the spouse’s roles within the company. Renee addressed dealing with gender-bias, and recommendations for other women entrepreneurs and to spouses considering working together. Among her responses, Renee advised to “leave work at work and enjoy one another as a couple at home,” though she warned, “that’s hard to do when everything you have is riding on the company.” There is one under-rated piece of advice that Renee shared for going into business with your spouse that will have all employees cheering. “Have fun – laugh at yourself and enjoy the fact that you are running a company. Besides if you are having fun then everyone else will be too, including your spouse and employees.” For additional information about Parameter Security, call 314.442.0472, or click here to email.
