| TakeDownCon: Two Hacking Presentations From Parameter |
|
Professional Hackers Expose Trojans & Cloud Vulnerabilities at Security Conference in Dallas Next Month (April 12, 2012) St. Louis, MO – Two of the thirteen presentations given at TakeDownCon May 8 & 9 in Dallas, Texas are featuring Parameter Security's own professional ethical hackers, Dave Chronister and Ben Miller. Parameter Security is the only company slated to present more than once at this hardcore technical security conference which attracts various security experts in the field. Both presentations by Parameter Security will be held on day two of the conference which is themed "Attack" day. Speaking first, Ben Miller's presentation entitled "Trojans: What You Don't Know Can Hurt You" will take place at 11 a.m. on May 9. "You can't see it. You can't hear it. You can't detect it. And it is hackers' weapon of choice: Trojans," says Miller. Under-reported and misunderstood, these "spies" are more difficult to detect and get rid of than a standard virus infection. With complete, unobstructed access to your network, Trojans turn your network into a hacker's playground. Attendees will learn about evasion techniques hackers use via Trojans by making them invisible to antivirus, network sniffers, operating systems and more. "Remote access tools give incredible functionality to administrators, and incredible power when malicious hackers use them as Trojans," says Miller. He will also discuss additional ways Trojans hijack networks, and how to mitigate damage by preparation and appropriate action after infiltration. In the afternoon at 2 p.m. on May 9, Dave Chronister will bring his real-world cloud hacking experience to event-goers with his presentation entitled "The Cloud is a Smoke Screen", in which he will provide eye-opening information about the false sense of security cloud providers and users possess. Everywhere you turn, cloud computing is the latest big thing when it comes to storing data and reducing costs for companies worldwide. Many assume that because their data is being stored offsite it is securely preserved and they no longer have to worry about risk. "Au contraire. Risk cannot be outsourced," says Chronister. Chronister went on to say, "It's because of this mindset that hackers are preying upon the cloud and are gaining control of huge stores of information through a single attack," which is exactly what Chronister recently did. "During a recent cloud security audit, I was able to identify a zero day exploit and within minutes gained access to the cloud sphere and every system that was on that cloud—giving me complete control. Needless to say, the client was shocked because they were touting their cloud offering as 100% secure." During his cloud computing presentation, Chronister will expose various cloud vulnerabilities; address cloud security issues; provide insight into selecting cloud providers - with questions to ask providers regarding data security, risk and incident response; offer ways to successfully implement your own cloud solution and mitigate risk; and share his real-world experiences hacking multiple cloud environments. Parameter Security is also a sponsor of TakeDownCon as well as an exhibitor at the event and event-goers are encouraged to stop by Parameter Security's booth in the exhibit hall.
